Charlotte Eardley

ABOUT

Starting off her musicianship as a classical pianist and violinist, Charlotte has always had a love of music, especially composing. Acquiring an amalgamation of influences throughout life and studies her creative style has a traditional foundation with a contemporary edge.

Undertaking a Bachelor of Music (Hons) at the University of Birmingham, enabled exploration of her creative practice, particularly less traditional aspects, and in her final year Charlotte specialised in electroacoustic composition. Analysing a wide range of music from the Medieval period to the 20th century has allowed a breadth of influences to seep into her compositional process. While in Birmingham, Charlotte's music was performed by musicians from the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group.

After graduating, Charlotte then worked at the Royal Albert Hall, before moving to Bristol to complete a master's in Composition of Music for Film and Television. Here she honed her skills in scoring for screen, audio recording and music production, whilst gaining experience composing music for short films, animations, documentaries and video games. Charlotte had the privilege to collaborate with BBC Natural History Unit Producer, Alex Cumming, on a rescoring project for a scene from Prehistoric Planet, as well as conducting a recording session of the score with The Bristol Ensemble.

While in Bristol, in 2022 Charlotte was commissioned to compose a piece for Contemporary Music Venture as part of a concert on the theme of 'Bristol & Protest'. Her composition, Dance with a Crocodile, premiered in Bristol in March 2023.

Charlotte's latest collaborative endeavour was an experimental event, Art Comes Alive, that fused music and visual art, for which she worked as both Creative Director and as one of the 8 composers on the project. The premise was for visual artists to create artworks responding to the original music live in the moment. The story and theme of the music was kept secret from the artists but available for the audience, enabling them to be taken on an immersive, multi-sensory journey.
